Future Recycling is Certified Carbon Neutral by Climate Active. Climate Active is the Australian Government’s carbon neutral certification is the most rigorous and credible carbon neutral certification available.

As such, the Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions associated with the running of the business during 2017-2018 have been calculated from all material emissions sources which principally relate to energy consumption (power and fuel) and total 2,579.9 tonnes of CO2.

Not only are we endeavouring to offset our emissions, we have also reduced our emissions from previous 2016 emission levels.

The calculation of emissions has been carried out in accordance with the following standards:

  • Climate Active Carbon Neutral Standard (formerly NCOS)
  • The Greenhouse Gas Protocol: A Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard (Revised Edition)
  • National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (Measurement) Determination 2008

Our carbon offset projects

We support offset projects which focus on renewable energy and revegetation. These projects focus on the reduction of emissions and the preservation of life-giving rainforests which are critical factors to the global preservation of our fragile environment.

The power of wind

Installed in villages across China, these wind farms generate clean power and reduce reliance on traditional fossil fuels that contribute to air pollution.

The project also:

  • Is compatible with rural land uses, allowing farmers to continue to grow crops and graze livestock up to the base of the turbines;
  • Creates jobs in construction, operation & maintenance; and
  • Provides education and incentive for renewable energy investment.

Empowering rainforest communities

The April Salumei project in Papua New Guinea protects 177,000 of virgin rainforests and is home to 163 local communities who depend upon the rainforest for their livelihoods.

The project also:

  • Directs significant revenue to community health, education, communication and accessibility programs;
  • Conserves important habitat for diverse range of flora and fauna; and
  • Is one of the ten most important biodiversity hotspots on earth.

Generating clean energy

Located in Durban, South Africa, this project converts methane (a greenhouse gas 23 times more potent than CO2) from landfill sites to gas, generating renewable electricity and avoiding greenhouse gas emissions reaching the atmosphere.

The project also:

  • Reduces dependence on fossil fuel-generated electricity;
  • Can produce electricity during all weather, unlike solar or wind; and
  • Supports employment and investment in sustainable technologies.

Renewable energy

This project is a step towards supporting the implementation and installation of grid connected renewable energy power plants in India. The activities ensures energy security, diversification of the grid generation mix and sustainable growth of the electricity generation sector in India. The main goal of the project is to implement renewable energy projects in the country and the significant importance of revenues from the sale of Verified Carbon Units (VCUs) to achieve this goal forms the basis of the implementation of this project.
