New lease and new life for Bayside Waste & Recycling Centre

At its July meeting, Bayside Council granted a new lease to Future Recycling to redevelop and operate the Bayside Waste and Recycling Centre.

The new lease will transform the Bayside Waste and Recycling Centre into a state-of-the-art facility focused on sustainable recycling initiatives.

The upgraded centre will offer a range of recycling solutions, making it easier and more convenient for residents to dispose of their waste responsibly. The centre will also be able to accept a larger variety of materials, reducing the amount of waste going to landfill and helping to create a more sustainable future.

Future Recycling will fully fund the redevelopment with a significant investment to upgrade the site.

Upgrades to the centre will include:

Under cover drop off area
A fully under-cover drop-off area to minimise dust when receiving materials.

New recycling bays
Purpose-built bays to separate recyclable products.

Concrete hardstand
A concrete hardstand installed over the entire site to minimise dust and debris.

Container deposit scheme
A container deposit scheme to align with the statewide introduction later this year.

Recycle shop
A recycling shop (in association with Vinnies) where the community can purchase recycled items.

The redevelopment of the Bayside Waste and Recycling Centre will take place over three stages, which are anticipated to be completed by September 2024. To ensure the transition to the new facility is smooth and seamless for the community, the recycling centre will remain fully operational throughout all stages of development.
