Future Recycling improving recycling opportunities for Bayside residents

Future Recycling Bayside is a new Return-It CDS Vic refund point. Locals can now take in drink containers to be counted and refunded on the spot. At 10 cents per eligible container it’s a great way to make some extra cash or donate to charity – while helping the environment.

CDS Vic provides easy fundraising opportunities for local schools, kindergartens, sports clubs and not-for-profits. Organisations can sign up to CDS Vic and ask their members, families and supporters to recycle their drink containers to earn money which can be automatically donated to a school, club or organisation.

Most beverage containers (larger than 150ml and smaller than 3L) that are made from aluminium, glass, plastic, steel and liquid paperboard are eligible for a 10c refund.

It’s important not to crush your containers or remove the labels as scanners need to identify the shape, label and barcode to register the refund.

CDS Vic is part of the Victorian Government’s $515 million investment to transform the state’s waste and recycling sector. It’s funded by contributions from the beverage industry and will contribute to Victoria’s target of diverting 80% of all material away from landfill by 2030.

Victorians use more than 3 billion drink containers every year. Many are not recycled, ending up in landfill and as litter in local communities across our state.

The benefits of the CDS to the community include:

  • More and better recycling
  • Less waste – old containers become new ones
  • Less litter – cut by up to half
  • New jobs and economic opportunities across Victoria
  • Opportunities for charities, community groups, environmental organisations, sports and educational organisations to raise funds
  • A cleaner, greener state

This drive-in depot is the first part of the redevelopment and improvement of the Bayside Waste and Recycling Centre. It has made an enormous difference to the site, in terms of cleanliness and accessibility. Stage two has also commenced.

Future Recycling CDS drive-in depot, is at 144 Talinga Road, Cheltenham and is open Monday to Saturday 8am to 4pm.
